A couple was forced to spend the night in a maize store following a case
of “self- arson”.
The man had opted five years ago to live in a different hut from his
wife who had given him five children as a birth control method.
Over the festive season, the couple decided to make merry with close
friends in the village. As expected, the party raised her hormonal
hyperactivity and neighbors could hear her drunkenly beseeching her
husband to let her into his hut for a good time after five long years of
‘starvation’.
Despite the appeal, the man forced her out of his house saying he could
not stand the sight of a crying baby. In an attempt to blackmail him
into her bed, the wife torched his hut just managing to secure a few of
his belongings.
The man angered by his wife’s actions decided to strike back and in
return torched her hut leaving them both homeless. The chief said this
as a situation of intentional destruction of assets and vowed to take
action against the couple.
The children were taken in by close relatives.
