DENRELE EDUN
Adenrele Oluwafemi Edun has a larger than life image in the entertainment industry. He looks thin and fragile but with his hard studs, pins, cloth patches, beads, tons of silver chains and a myriad of costumes, Denrele is definitely a fashion icon to reckon with in his own queer way.
HAIR
I spend money on my hair when I can, because sometimes, I will have to go to a salon on the Island, but don’t spend that much. My punk hairstyle, costumes and all that are extensions of my personality. I am not too materialistic to spend money unnecessarily. I came about this style out of my fashion craziness.
SHIRTS & PANTS
I think fashion is pain but you don’t see it that way because you dress comfortably and you will never sacrifice comfort for fashion. But I think fashion is about being experimental. My clothes are just fun, playful, upbeat, colourful and I make most of them myself. A lot of people think I spend too much money on my clothes. I work very hard to get the money and have not been very stupid enough to carry it to a boutique and start spending them on clothes. Because I make my clothes myself, most times, I recycle them. I can wear a jacket hundred times and you will never know it is the same jacket and I can repeat my trousers 10 times you won’t know because I will keep redesigning it.
BELTS
My belts are normal belts but what makes it different from yours is all monster heads and pins on it. Behind every form of madness or craziness, there must be at least a certain degree of creativity. It is not easy to sew all these together and wear but then when you look at the dressing you definitely know that the person who put it together is not a dullard.
BLINGS
I couldn’t make them myself but it cost me fortunes to put them together in one neck.
As you can see, I’m very skinny but I love heavy things on me. They are heavy, pins are inching me here and there but they are still fashionable. I just love adding all the pins and buttons because it makes it more fashionable to me
SHOES
My shoes are very expensive. No girl can even put on the shoes I have on because they are ten inches high. I know that what I put on is uncomfortable. Some of my shoes are also sent to me by some people. This shoe that I put on is very expensive, it cost $2,000 but I didn’t pay for them. There is this company I have been patronizing in Spain for some time now and when I ordered for the shoes, I told them I wanted 12 inches high shoes and they were like wow, nobody has ever worn anything like that, but I told them not to worry that I will be the first person to wear it. But they made it clear; the left leg of the shoes came in December, while the second came in January. When the shoes were ready, they asked if I like them and I said yes, so they had an agreement with me to be an ambassador of their company and always wear their shoes. The only pair of shoes, I’ve ever bought for myself was when I went to the states.
