Photo: HIV+ Woman Arrested For Breastfeeding Neighbour's Baby

39-year-old Zimbabwean woman, Annie Mpariwa who is HIV positive has been arrested for breastfeeding a neighbour's baby without her consent. The case which is already in court has been set for further hearing on the 24th of October  for an HIV test to be performed on the toddler. She was arrested last week on charges of common nuisance and should the child test positive; the charge will be raised to “deliberately infecting another person with HIV”. The mother of the 14-month-old baby said seeing her child being breastfed by her neighbour was traumatising.

According to her, the neighbour snatched the child while she was playing outside and hid her in her room. But after searching for the child for quite some time, she went and knocked on Annie’s rented room and got no response. Upon peeping through the window, she saw her breastfeeding the little girl.

I was shocked. I nearly fainted,” she said, adding that her breasts were leaking milk yet she was not a nursing mother or pregnant.

A 33 year old man is on the run after murdering his wife with acid. On Friday October 11th, a man named Sunday Eze from Obiofia Nnewichi Nnewi in Anambra State, went to his father-in-law's house at Edoji Uruagu to see his estranged wife, 23 year old Ebere Eze (Nee Agwuncha) who had moved back to her father's house after falling out with her husband. The victim's in-law said Sunday came to the house that Friday and claimed he had recently bought new plots of land he wanted his wife to see. He managed to convince Ebere to go with him to go see the land. As they approached Oraifite/Ichi axis in Ekwusigo Local Government, Sunday Eze turned on his wife and attacked her. He beat her with iron and poured acid on her. He then forced some of the acid down her throat.

Super Eagles Midfielder Nosa Igiebor suffered a cut on his right palm as the Nigeria team bus was attacked by furious Ethiopia fans after Sunday's 2-1 win by Nigeria. The Nigeria bus left the stadium with delay. When it finally did, the waiting fans started throwing missiles at it and even broke the rear window.
Igiebor was hit on the hand by a big stone and received serious bleeding, which needed immediate attention of team doctor Ibrahim Gyaran. NFF General Secretary Musa Amadu explained that because of this incident the players missed the dinner arranged in their honor by the Nigerian embassy in Ethiopia.

Suicide Bombers Die In Failed Plot During Super Eagles Match In Ethiopia

Two Somali suicide bombers who had planned to kill football fans during Ethiopia's World Cup qualifying match against Nigeria on Sunday blew themselves up accidentally before carrying out the attack, the Ethiopian government said on Monday.

The explosion on Sunday happened in the upscale Bole district of the capital, about 5 km (3 miles) from Addis Ababa Stadium where thousands of fans were gathering for the match.

"They were Somali nationals and plotted to carry out a suicide attack disguised as fans on either the stadium or areas where large crowds gathered to watch the game," government spokesman Shimeles Kemal said.

'Pilot error caused Associated Airlines plane crash' - AIB reveals

The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) has revealed that the October 3rd Associated Airlines crash that killed 14 people was caused by pilot error. The agency explained that the preliminary readout and analysis of the flight recorder indicated that the right engine of the aircraft was faulty.

The agency also said that preliminary investigation indicated that the captain-in-command of the ill-fated aircraft, Abdulrahman Yakubu, ignored the warning from the onboard computer voice.

The Nigerian police has confirmed the abduction of Etubom Essien Cobham, the father of the deputy governor of Cross River state, Mr Efiok Cobham, by gunmen at his country home in Creek Town. The Public Relations Officer of the Cross River State Police Command, Mr Hogan Bassey, confirmed the development while speaking with newsmen in Calabar.

He said: “For security reasons, I cannot tell you what we are doing to rescue him. “The Commissioner of Police, Mr Kola Sodipo, and senior officers of the command have gone to Creek Town to see the building and the damage done.” Eye-witnesses said the gunmen abducted the old man at about 2 a.m. on Friday in his residence at Creek Town in the Odukpani Local Government Area of the state. Sources said that the deputy governor’s uncle, whose name was not immediately ascertained, was also abducted by the gunmen. According to the sources in Creek Town, there was so much shooting while the operation lasted.

Pastor In Trouble As Boy Dies During Spiritual Bath

A 25-year-old pastor, Samson Bamgbose, was, yesterday, arraigned before an Abeokuta Chief Magistrate Court, Isabo, Ogun State for allegedly causing the death of a church member, who drowned during a spiritual bath.

Bamgbose, a pastor at the Celestial Church of Christ, Alaapa, is facing a one-count charge of negligence.

The police prosecutor, Mr Paul Etusi, told the court that the offence was committed on August 15 at 3p.m. in Ogun River, Alaapa village, Abeokuta.


He said the accused took some church members, including the deceased, Toheeb Odusanya,13, to the river for spiritual bath.

“Bamgbose took the little boy to the river without his parent’s consent. He did not take the necessary precaution, and allowed the boy to drown,” the prosecutor said.

Etusi said the offence contravened section 344 of the Criminal Code of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The magistrate, Mr Anthony Araba, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till October 2.

Nollywood Actress Sentenced to 2 Months Imprisonment For Stealing iPad and iPhone

An Abuja-based upcoming actress, Nancy Ndukwe has been sentenced to two months imprisonment for stealing her friend’s properties worth N190,000 in Abuja.

Nancy’s friend, Faith Njoku reported the case to the Lugbe Police station, Abuja on September 2, 2013. The items stolen included an I-pad (N100,000), I-phone (N50,000) and Jewellery (N40,000) summing up to N190,000.

Nigerian Students Don’t Want Us To End This Strike ––ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has said it is continuing its nationwide strike on the advice of university students across the country.

“Our students have come out to say they don’t want us to call off the strike until the Federal Government answers us, because they don’t want us to call off now and later we go back to strike again. So, we are heeding the advice of our students.”

"There are issues and agreement they can implement without money. Why don’t they begin with those ones?"

In a telephone interview with PUNCH, the President of the union, Dr. Isa Fagge, said students were tired of the incessant industrial actions by university lecturers due to the Federal Government’s failure to implement the agreement it had with ASUU since 2009.
